How to Have Fun at Home
July 8, 2009 by Alexandra Paul
Although going out is usually a good time, it is a sure fire wire way to break the bank. With drinks costing up to $10, going out can be an expensive past time. However, there are alternatives to spending a ton of money on drinks and cover charges; entertain at home. Okay, maybe that doesn’t sounds like as much fun as a wild night out, but if you are trying to save money this summer, entertaining at home might just be your new best friend. Here are just a few ideas for a fun summer without spending your savings.
1) Drinks from Around the World
Make a Facebook event and invite some of your close friends for a trip around the globe. Ask everyone to come up with one drink (alcoholic or non) from a different country and bring the ingredients to make it. If everyone brings one, you are sure to have a ton of interesting flavors, lots of conversations and some amazing drinks. Change it up and tell people to only bring drinks from places they have personally visited. You not only will have a good time, you might learn something new about your friends.

2) A New Twist on Game Night
Tuesday nights can be a drab at the bars, so change things up and have everyone over to your house for game night. Classic games like charades can actually be a lot of fun if you can get creative with your categories and poker is always a favorite. Keep the wine and food coming and you are sure to have a good time.

3) Get Outside and Play
You don’t have to be a kid to head to the park with some friends to play a game of two hand touch football. Get a bunch of people and meet up at a local park to play a massive game of hide and seek or volleyball. The night will be fun, free and healthy. Let yourself be a kid again and go play!

To have fun this summer, you don’t have to head to the bars, just think outside the box. Get creative with your friends and you will make some memories that will last. Nights at the bar can blur together, but you won’t forget the meals you make together or the late night games at the park. Have fun this summer and save some money!

Okay, I can’t get myself off the couch, down the steps, and out the front door. The repeat of The Hills is very enticing and there is a bag of potato chips in the kitchen. I can always work out tomorrow.
Have you ever realized you needed that little extra “oomph” to get your workout started? Sometimes it’s hard to bring yourself to do something that may not sound very fun, especially when it comes to working out. I can’t count on two hands how many times I have needed a little extra motivation to put on my running shoes. So what can we do?
Well, everyone loves music. They listen to it in the car, while they are getting ready, out partying, at work, almost everywhere! So why not listen to some music while you work out too?

How to throw a dinner party
February 6, 2009 by Kristyna Murphy
In high school I never attended one party. The same holds true for college. Instead, I am host to four or five dinner parties throughout the year. It all started February 2007 when I decided to throw a Valentine’s dinner party for my close girl friends. Now my friends can expect a Valentine, Christmas, Halloween and summer dinner party- with perhaps one or two thrown in randomly throughout the year. It’s a time when I can put my creativity into good use and take a break from school. And my friends claim they love the parties. So allow me to share with you my personal tips on throwing your own dinner party.

- Un-Birthday and Halloween Dinner Parties
1. Theme- For each party choose a theme. The theme decides what desserts will be made and how you’ll decorate. Throw a theme that fits you. For instance, I’m a girly girl so past themes have included an un-birthday party (inspired by Alice in Wonderland), a masquerade Halloween party, and tonight I will be hosting a Marie Antoinette Valentine dinner party. Of course I would recommend something less girly if there are guys at the party.
2. Décor- I would recommend making one part of the house the main area to decorate. For instance, the dining room table is where I focus all my attention. The décor solely depends on the theme. For example, past Halloween parties included draping gray-black netting from the ceiling, random material over the table and a centerpiece. I use anything in my house that I think would go with the theme. Use what you already have!
3. Food- Play it simple. Finger food is definitely the best way to go. Forget going healthy- you can have one night to splurge. Menu ideas include: pigs in a blanket, little smokies, jalapeño poppers, croissants (complete with cheeses and meats), crackers and cheese ball- basically a variety of junk. What to do with what’s left over? Send it home with your guests so you’re not snacking all weekend! Dessert is another story. I recommend having lots- cakes, cupcakes, cookies, chocolate-covered fruit or pretzels. And don’t be shy about asking your guests to bring something.
4. Guest List- Invite your closest friends from high school, college, work, etc. It doesn’t matter if you’ve never hung out with them outside of class. That person that sits next to you in class who you always talk to? Invite them to the party. It’s a way to become better friends. For most of my parties, not everyone always knows each other. I would recommend letting each of your friends bring a friend of their own. Send out invites via Facebook by creating an event.
5. Fun- What to do after you’re done eating? Games- whether you’re the poker type or prefer Apples to Apples. For guys? Video games. This can also depend on your theme. For Halloween- why not carve pumpkins? Christmas time? Go look at all the lights. Bake and decorate cookies. The possibilities are endless. Just have fun!
