Drink Your Way to a Healthier You!
July 24, 2009 by Paige Blatnik
With temperatures in the triple digits, the first drink on everyone’s mind is nothing but water. The second best drink that comes to mind (especially for us college students) is beer. But alcohol only dehydrates your body more, so beer can only get you so far. And water is very hydrating, but tastes like crap.

So what CAN you drink when it’s hot outside and you are bored of drinking all that tasteless water? I have a list of drinks that are 100 percent good for you, will hydrate your body, and taste great! The next time you are headed to the pool or the beach, fill your cooler up with these drinks and you will be ready to go!
1. Green Tea: Green tea is a great source of antioxidants like flavonoids and poly-phenols, which help fight off certain diseases and keep your body from getting blood clots. This great drink has 0 calories too!

2. Soy Milk: This tasty little drink lowers your risk for heart disease, thanks to the amounts of fiber and soy protein it has. Soy milk does not have vitamins A and D like cow milk does, so look for a brand that has those vitamins added.
3. Cranberry Juice: Cranberry juice not only tastes delicious, but does amazing things for your body. Cranberry juice has anti-bacterial properties in it that fight off urinary tract infections and can also prevent gum disease! This fantastic juice is a necessity to anyone’s daily routine.

4. Mint Tea: This drink is great for easing the pain of cramps and for fighting off indigestion. The mint leaf is known for its ability to relax the mind and body, so this would be a superb drink to have with you for a relaxing day at the beach.
5. Orange Juice: Orange juice is definitely a super juice. It contains antioxidants, tons of vitamin C, and some calcium. This tasty treat fights off cancer, cataracts, and boosts your immunity. There really isn’t anything this drink can’t do!

So the next time you are planning a long trip outside, skip the beer, and don’t just bring water bottles…Try some of these tasty drinks while you are out in the sun! Start drinking your way to a healthier you. Your body will feel better and you will be left licking your lips!

Great Arm Exercises…The Beach is That Way!
June 25, 2009 by Paige Blatnik
As the temperature keeps rising, the sleeves get shorter and we start showing more of our arms. This is great, except for those of us who have the dreaded flabby arms! Flabby arms are hard to show in public, and definitely hard for the public to look at!

In order to tone up those flabby arms, follow these great exercises. They will tighten up and define your arms fast. Before you know it, you will be pointing your friends in the right direction…”The beach is that way!”

1. Triceps Dips: Start off by sitting on a bench or a chair. Lift yourself up on your hands and bring your hips forward. Drop down about 90 degrees, and lift yourself back up without locking your elbows. Repeat 15 times.

2. Triceps Kickbacks: Hold a weight in each hand and bend forward at a 90 degree angle. Pull your elbows up to torso-level. While holding that position, extend your arms backward while contracting your triceps. Straighten your arms back out and repeat 15 times.

3. Hammer Curls: Stand with your legs about hip-length apart and turn your palms inward while holding weights in each hand. Your palms should be facing each other. Lift your arms together up toward the ceiling while holding the weights. Your biceps should be contracting in order to do this lift. Bring them back down to the starting position. Repeat 20 times.

4. Push Ups Plus: Lay face down on the floor with paper plates or special sliding equipment under each hand. Push your torso up into a regular push up position using your arms. At the top of this position, slide your hands together, using the paper plates to help. Hold, then slide your hands back out and drop back down. Repeat 15 times.

More Tips:
1. Travel with friends, that way you can divide expenses, such as gas and hotel, amongst yourselves.
2. When traveling, a large chunk of your wallet goes toward drive-ins and dining out. Save money by bringing your own cooler with drinks and snacks.
3. Look for fun that is free. Travel somewhere that offers ‘free’ fun, like the beach or the mountains. You can enjoy the view or go hiking.
4. Keep checking Travelocity, Orbitz, Expedia, Kayak, and Farewatcher. The fares change every day and sometimes by the hour.
5. Do your research and plan ahead.
How to enjoy Spring Break at home

Spring Break is finally here and with the Mexican Drug War going on some students are choosing to spend their break at home. Here are a few ideas to make your break more enjoyable.
1. Have a movie marathon. Invite your friends over and watch your favorite movies. Don’t forget to have snacks, pizza and popcorn nearby.
2. Why not see what your city has to offer? Look for interesting places around town, such as a museum or a trip to the zoo.
3. If you don’t want to stay at home look for a nearby city. If you plan on staying in Arizona and want to go somewhere, I recommend Sedona. It’s beautiful and the perfect distance for a short road trip with friends.
4. Do those projects that you never have time to get done during the semester. Redecorate your room or perhaps simply cleaning your room would be an accomplishment. Get organized. Or spend time doing what you love, like painting or photography.
5. Throw a Spring Break party with your friends. Grill out in the back yard and play games- whether it is cards, board games or tag football. You can even create a theme such as a luau.
6. Now is the perfect time of the year to go hiking. I personally recommend taking a drive out to the Superstition Mountains for a hike. Or you can always load up your camping gear and take a trip to Payson with your friends.
7. Spring Break is all about relaxing, right? Treat yourself to your favorite dessert or a relaxing bubble bath. Go ahead and pamper yourself.
8. Spend some time at the lake. You can go fishing or work on a tan. And don’t forget the sunscreen.
9. Sign up for a fun class at the gym, like kickboxing, dance or something you’ve never tried before.
10. If you really want to get away for the week, California is less than a day’s trip away. Take a road trip with your friends to Six Flags, Disneyland or the beach.
